Edward Youde Aviary, away from the hustle and bustle of themain city of central hong kong in the southern district is the village ofstanley. a convenient, affordable, and fun way to get there is by bus. to get to stanley find your way to central using the mtr; then locate the exchangesquare terminus which is a few blocks
away from the central mtr station or youcan walk to the mtr hong kong station which is also the airport expressstation and take exit d to the exchange square bus terminus. take bus 6, 6a, 6x (express), 66, or 260 to stanley. from the mtr causeway bay station, take exit f1 andwalk to jardine's bazar and then take mini bus 40. if you're on the kowloonside then take bus 973 from canton road in tsim sha tsui outside the silvercordcenter. exit any of these buses at stanley plaza or stanley village busstop. the hop-on hop-off bus tour offers the aberdeen stanley route. please make sure to make note of the last bus leaving from stanley. if you can ride on a double-decker bus, make sure you go on the top, in the front if possible. stanley has many bars and restaurants onits waterfront along stanley main street to the west of the stanley main streetpast the amphitheater is the stanley plaza. the stanley plaza is an outdoor shopping mall and community amphitheaterespecially on the weekends there are free concerts and events held in theamphitheater. you'll find the wellcome supermarket, starbucks, mcdonald's andother local upscale shops. when we are at stanley plaza we like to stop at chung'scuisine for their great dim sum. their
location is located on the third floor. on the piazza level which is the ground floor, you'll see the amphitheaterplayground area. here you find a 300 seat amphitheater with a glass canopy, and apirate ship shaped children's playground nearby stanley plaza is the tin hautemple, the temple of the queen of heaven this temple built by cheung po tsai (pirate) in1767 is one of the oldest temples in hong kong. across the way from stanleyplaza is murray the house. the murray house is a victorian era building that was anofficer's quarters of the murray barracks. the building was relocated tostanley during the 2000's. it's currently used to house restaurants and shops.adjacent to the murray house is blake
pier. at blake pier you can catch a ferryfor a day trip to po toi island. po toi island is the southernmost island ofhong kong's 200 plus islands. po toi is beautiful and a good place to try thelocal seafood. you can catch a ferry on weekends from the blake pier. forinformation go to hipfig.com for stanley in hong kong. from blake pier you get a great view of the ocean and a view of the stanley barsand restaurants on its waterfront stanley waterfront is located on thestanley main street. you continue walking from stanley plaza on the waterfrontyou'll find stanley market. stanley market is a popular touristmarket. you'll find an interesting array of
little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, custom jewelry, and other souvenirs. bargaining is a commonpractice here and is expected. here are a few tips: begin with asking the price ofthe item you are interested in. once the merchants states the price, ask ifthere's a discount or state that it's too expensive and walk away. if themerchant goes down in price bargain away make sure to bargain only if you intendto make a purchase. determine the price that you are willing to pay and which isfair to the merchants as well and don't go beyond that price! be ready to walkaway politely. there's usually another stall carrying the same item. if you'rebuying multiple amounts of the same item
make sure to ask for a discount. makesure to have cash on hand; bring small bill denominations; and bring a bag tocarry your goods. the stanley market, restaurants along the waterfront, murrayhouse, and the tin hau temple are all located near each other within walkingdistance. stanley even boasts sandy beaches. stanley main beach has shark nets, life rafts, and a lifeguards on duty duringtheir swimming season. the official swimming season in hong kong runs fromapril through the end of october and after october all the facilities areunavailable. happy travels
